
Yousaf Raza Gilani has been appointed as a new prime minister of Pakistan, who will take the oath today on Tuesday, March 25, 08. Gilani, who has been the loyal supporter of assassinated former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto, ordered the release of deposed Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and other judges, who were detained under emergency rule and also said that he will ask parliament to certify a declaration to re-instate them within 30days.
Gilani himself spent five years in jail under Musharraf’s government from 2001 to 2006. By the time Gilani finished his speech, the supporters of Top judge Chaudhry gathered in large volume to welcome his release after four months on his Islamabad home and in the meanwhile Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry will be enjoying full day of freedom on Tuesday.
He will meet senior lawyers and wellwishers at his residence. Gilani, 56 years old, BB supporter was elected as PM after an overwhelming electoral victory i.e. 264 votes to 42.

The first action after winning was to shake hands with Benazir Bhutto’s son Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, who sobbed and smiled and said ‘Democracy has been revived due to the sacrifice of Benazir Bhutto’ and also said that nothing that they have got comes out of charity, its just their struggle that showed them the way. Musharraf, on Sunday pledged his full support to the new alignment, acclaiming the start of what he was talking for so long and which is being called as a ‘real democratic era’ in the country.
