Afghanistan is becoming restless like that of Iraq with violent incidents increasing with each passing day. Violence goes unabated - be it suicide bombings or the recurrent brawls between Coalition forces and Taliban rebels nullifying efforts to restore peace and stability in the turbulent country.
In a latest fighting between US-led coalition forces and Taliban rebels, more than 20 militants were killed when occupying forces struck the militant hideout in the Southern Reg district of volatile Helmand province, bordering Pakistan. Additionally, three civilians and several militants have also been killed in clashes in eastern Afghanistan.
With al-Qaeda gaining strength both in Iraq and Afghanistan, for coalition forces it’s becoming a hard nut to crack to sustain peace and stability. With rising terror activities the ‘war on terror’ has become grin of US President who is facing tough criticism at home and abroad for his prolonged stay on the course.
In yet another incident of the same genre in Iraq, US forces carries out the operation in Northwest of Baghdad wherein more than 60 insurgents have been killed with most of the casualties believed to have been of al-Qaeda fighters.
The rising terror activities in Afghanistan have deteriorated peace and stability in comparison to last year. Taliban-linked violence has surmounted to a record high level in this year since the fall of the Taliban in 2001. More than 5,000 people, mostly rebels, have died in attacks so far compared with 4,000 last year.
Violence has soared in both the war torn countries. The more US goes on cracking hard on rebels in Iraq and Afghanistan more fierce the terrorists become while carrying out their activities more vigorously. So, will there be an end to all there bloodshed or how long the forces will stay on the course in the name of ‘war on terror’? One hardly knows. However, both countries will remain restless as long as the war continues or may be beyond that even.
