One of the world’s most dangerous and the most successful guerrilla outfit also a declared terrorist organization has always alarmed observers around the world with its tactics that has many firsts attached to its name...be it the suicide squads or the Air Force.
This dreadfully innovative terrorist organization in its surprising move has welcomed the arrival of a top UN official Miss Arbour. Miss Arbour, who is the UN High Commissioner for human rights, is on a 5-day visit to Sri Lanka to act as the mediator between the dissident LTTE rebels and the increasingly fragile government.
Many international observers see the LTTE rebels as unwanted troublemakers in Sri Lanka since their demand for a Tamil state leans towards destruction and fractionalization of the nation. But the rebels’ confidence in their ideology is remarkable and this must be a worrying sign for the Sri Lankan government. Also given Sri Lanka’s reputation of more than two decades of continuous warfare there’s no chance that any envoy from UN or from Japan can bring the two sides to work out a peace settlement.
