Trains to bridge the yawning gap between North and South Korea

North and South Korea created hallmark in the history for the first time since 1950-53 when a pair of train from both sides passed the border shedding aside the legacy of the Cold War era. The trips are only test runs because North refused to give security assurance and the first cross was made possible only after N. Korea’s army agreed last week to provide security across world’s most heavily fortified border. The trains give hope to the people across the border for reunification and resumption of solid cordial relations, as the trains run across the borders carrying 150 passengers. The rail project was agreed in 2000 summit, the first ever between two nations who are still technically at war. It is not fully known as to when the regular trains will be started between two nations, as N. Korea is reluctant to entertain any foreign influence and has demanded concessions on issues like a disputed sea border and financial matters. The binding train for North and South Korea has started finally putting aside the shackles of sour relations and the bitter memories of war that resulted in panic for both the countries. However, the Korean War ended but there is no peace accord signed between two nations technically at war. Both the countries started the reconciliatory process last year but the relations soured with N. Korea’s sudden cancellation of test trains and missile as well as nuclear tests in June and October respectively. Crossing of the trains between two historically hostile nations has started a new era of peace and stability. It’s a historically important endeavor to unite the people across the border and to make the borderline unimportant on the map. Nevertheless, the present trains were just on test drive and lot more remains incomplete to run the regular trains. Whatsoever the reasons are, the unifying trains should not derail and hence strengthen the peace process while bridging the hostile gap forever…hopefully!
