blair-musharraf_2Pakistan’s President General Pervez Musharraf has added one more commendation certificate to his portfolio as British Prime Minister Tony Blair described him as an example of enlightened leadership for the entire Muslim world. No discerning eyes are required to see the sort of hatred and apathy which Musharraf has earned on account of his proximity with the West and becoming a partner in the US war on terror.

In a joint press conference, both the leaders said there could be no compromise with the Taliban in the war against extremism, or an acceptance of the ‘Taliban culture’ which was ‘obscurantist’, ‘reactionary’ and anti-democracy. However, Musharraf hastened to add the war in Afghanistan against the Taliban could not be won by military alone, but had to incorporate a ‘broader strategy’ with a ‘political element and a reconstruction and development element’.

He added, “The solution lies in what you do in Afghanistan, not what you do in Pakistan. We have to certainly take action here against elements, which are supporting whatever is happening in the south-eastern region of Afghanistan. We are doing much more than our capacity. We have suffered about 600 dead. We are doing maximum.
