Suspected Islamic militants on Sunday have shot dead three Chinese workers in the Pakistani city of Peshawar; while badly injuring a fourth worker.
Armed with guns and bellowing religious slogans, these perpetrators attacked the Chinese men at a small auto-rickshaw factory.
According to the officials, this attack could be associated to the altercation that took place at an Islamabad mosque where Islamist students are cordoned.
This blockade in the first place had its origin after Islamist students abducted seven Chinese workers accusing them of running a brothel.
Earlier also several Chinese women were held hostages at the Red Mosque, whom the students accused to have been involved in prostitution. They were released only after the authorities declared to close certain massage parlours in the capital.
These acts of violence against the Chinese workers have increased in recent years. The western province of Balochistan has been witness to the brutality wherein separatist militants have repeatedly targeted Chinese workers.
The Pakistani government is also pressurized by Beijing to see to it that the Chinese workers are protected and come to no harm in Pakistan.
However, according to the Pakistani authorities, the Islamic militants are successfully evading a full army assault, by controlling the Red Mosque and holding hundreds of women and children as their safeguards.
Subsequent to the killings in Peshawar, China’s ambassador in Islamabad has insisted that Pakistan, “round up the culprits, properly handle the follow-up issues and take effective measures to protect all the Chinese in Pakistan”.
