There is something new for Pakistan everyday. Two things were announced for Pakistan yesterday: date for the presidential election and ‘Come to Jihad‘ - a call from Bin Laden against Musharraf.
The rising terror attacks, the political chaos and now the jihad call threaten all for Pakistan is a nuclear-armed country troubled by Islamic militancy. Therefore, right now, it’s more important to fight terrorism than to go for the election. And that will be a hard nut to crack as Musharraf’s benedictions to terrorists are turning into curses and why not this is what he deserves.
Is it further going to unsettle Pakistan? Well, chances are there but wait... there is another aspect to this. This may prove a boon for Musharraf. Surprised... might be. Yea, this threat can lead him to impose the state of emergency that will not only prolong his stay in power but will be an excuse for postponing the decision to step down as an army chief.
Again, whether Musharraf remains in power or not but is there a final solution of this problem?
While Musharraf in dual fight - for saving his life and saving his presidency, there is none to offer him a helping hand to come out of the quagmire. And after making hue and cry on the terrorist refuge in North Waziristan, now US even went off the scene. Perhaps waiting for another debacle and then at the end it’ll appear to play the role of a savior. However, by then there will remain nothing to do as Pakistan would have turned into another Afghanistan or Iraq. So, make hey while sun shines.
