China has successfully conducted the test of Experimental Advanced Superconducting Tokamak (EAST) fusion reactor at the Institute of Plasma Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS). The fusion reactor is also called as ‘Artificial Sun’. The reactor is located at Hefei.

During the thermo nuclear fusion, deuterium and tritium atoms were forced together at 100 million Celsius temperatures. At this extremely high temperature, the plasma begins to give up its own energy.

During the three-second testing, it generated the electrical current of 200 kiloamperes. The planning is to create plasma that will last to 1,000 seconds.

Li Jiangang, director of the Institute of Plasma Physics, said,

by this success, we lead others by ten years of development. It will be possible to provide a safe, clean and endless source of energy to the humanity. It will raise the energy-hungry country’s profile in the new but uncertain technology that promises clean power.
