Pakistan is fighting double battle - against military and militants. So far as the political chaos continues, militant activities will surmount or may be even after that. Ever since Musharraf divorced (though under pressure) and cracked on ‘Red Mosque’ clerics, that pulled the panic lever on Pakistan. Since then there is no looking back and we witnessed tremendous roadside bombings, brawls between militants and army, suicide attacks on civilians and army...
Crux of the matter is Musharraf remains in power which not only militants but civilians also wry. And of course, this is a revolt against Musharraf’s betrayal to Islamists which he doesn’t want to but couldn’t help under US pressure. Will it end with the shift in power? What do you say?
In such an incident when Islamabad was busy in Presidential election whose result still lingers, on the very next day there were fighting in Waziristan between militants and army wherein more than 58 casualties were reported in two separate places. Those who died include 16 soldiers, 38 militants, and four civilians.
Northern Waziristan is becoming the focal point and all violent activities are getting commands form this region. This is how Pakistan gradually turning into another Afghanistan or Iraq. At the same time, these upheavals are meant to force Musharraf to transfer power. Will he do that or will he stand up to his pledge to continue 100% fight against terrorism?
As politics in Pakistan is marked with the rat race between army and politicians to grab the power while each trying to outdo other, is leading Pakistan at the verge of destruction. This is true about Musharraf and many of his predecessors. And Duel policy against Islamic militants (sheltering them while at the same time promising to fight against them for attaining large monitory help from US) dented it tremendously.
Now, it’s not a difficult question to answer who is to blame for this shift in Islamic mood and militant uprising in Northern Pakistan. However, did anyone think of violent aftermath that will follow with this?
