The Sri Lankan peace process, it seems, is going on hold as the attack and the counter-attack between the Tamil rebels and the Sri Lankan Army has been started since past some time.
Both the sides are scheduled to hold peace talks on October 28 in Geneva, but the recent development has left little hope.
On Wednesday, a major blast has occurred on an important southern tourist and port town in Sri Lanka. It was a suicide attacks made by suicide boats. Those boats were disguised as fishing boats and were detonated near a navy base.
One sailor as well as 15 rebels died in the attack. The fighting between the government and the rebels is largely concentrated in the northern and eastern part of the country.
Keheliya Rambukwella, spokesperson, Defense Ministry, said The LTTE wanted to disturb this sensitive Sinhalese-majority area and they wanted to hit economic and commercial interests.
The violence erupted just after the blast and mobs attacked Tamil-owned stores in the town.
On the other hand, The LTTE denied of its hand in any of these attacks and blamed the government for consequent attacks on eastern rebel strong hold areas.
