myanmar students protesting fuel hike

Myanmar has always been in the news for its deviation from democracy. Several students protesting sudden fuel hike were taken in custody by the military junta of Myanmar for undermining stability and security of the country.

Myanmar, previously Burma has been under military dictatorship for most of the time ever since it achieved freedom from Britain. However, the people of the country have been denied freedom, when someone tries to raise his voice he is put behind bars. And continuing with its policy, Myanmar military junta arrested several students who were protesting against sudden surge in fuel prices. Following the fuel price hike, the prices of essential goods have skyrocketed.

However, not distracted with the detention of their compatriots, fellows and friends, many pro-democracy activists and students have called for a nationwide strike on Wednesday. School, college students took to streets irked by a 100 per cent rise in fuel prices clashing with the police and been subject to arrest.

Myanmar has been a forlorn figure when it comes to respecting human rights. As the people of Myanmar continue raising their voice against the dictatorial regime, the cries demanding release of Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi keep getting higher despite the atrocities they have been subject to.

The situation in the country is immensely bad and it becomes worse when people are denied their rights.
