As if Lal Masjid carnage and the growing resentment amongst masses against President Musharraf weren’t enough, a devastating storm has further agonized Pakistan’s pain. The storm created havoc on July 20, in which lightning and heavy rain engulfed homes in two remote villages of northwestern Pakistan on Friday. So far, 50 deaths have been confirmed and the toll is still rising. The Dirbala district’s villages are worst affected, which are located 150 miles north of Peshawar.
Local official Nisar Khan Wardak said:
More than 50 bodies had been recovered and several other villagers were still missing and the death toll was expected to rise.
Many injured have been rushed to hospitals and a search operation is on to locate the missing people. The storm triggered landslides at various places, which not only claimed many lives but the same is also hampering the rescue efforts as well. Further details are still awaited.
At this time of year storms in Pakistan are furious and this particular region continues to reel under such catastrophes time and again.
