The Chairman of the South Korean President’s political party has stepped down as the liberal ruling part has suffered a shocking defeat in the nationwide local elections. The outcome of the elections is very important because there could be serious implications for the government’s sensitive policy of towards its neighbor, North Korea to be precise.



The people of South Korea significantly voted for the main conservative opposition party to grab local authority positions. Undoubtedly, it is a serious blow to the president’s capability to maneuver his agenda.



The situation seems to have become gloomy for the Chung Dong-young, Chairman of Uri party, as he was one of the most powerful contenders in the coming presidential election due next year. This is the reason why he responded with his resignation quickly to accept the public mandate.
