When the pot is still very hot and Bush administration is denying no salvo against Ms. Nancy Palosi for her en-route trip to Syria, they are allowing another Democrat’s trip to another enemy country. White House is sponsoring Mr. Bill Richardson’s trip to North Korea. Mr. Richardson is not only a prominent Democrat; he is also the governor of New Mexico. He was ambassador to UN during Clinton’s era and a serious candidate for the forthcoming US presidential elections.
Unlike Congress speaker Ms. Pelosi, Mr. Richardson is not going to discuss any thing related to foreign policy. He is going to discuss the issue of ‘returning back of body remains of US soldiers who fought and were killed in Korea war. This is a touchy and sentimental issue back home in US. And this is the reason, White House is showing for their sponsorship behind Richardson’s trip.
Experts, though, are tagging this visit just as a populist move form Richardson’s side before presidential election.
Though Richardson won’t be on his own for the trip. Mr. Victor Cha, President’s advisor on North Korea issue, will accompany him. And report is that, Mr. Cha will look after the issue, if Richardson comments anything wrong on US’s official stance towards N. Korea.
On the international side, often this day it’s argued that, Bush government is becoming easy on N. Korea, following latter’s nuclear threat. Experts often claim that Bush administration is surrendering to Korean threat. Recently, US officials agreed to provide fuel supply to the country following its promise to allow UN officials to visit North Korean nuclear sites.
