
Islamic religious schools (Qaumi Madrassas) have got recognition by the Nationalist-Islamist coalition government in Bangladesh, where, fifteen percent of the school-going kids go to Madrassas. These schools are strict followers of the academic regime based on the Koran.
The recognition by the government for these madarassas was resisted because there was some fears that this may burst religious extremism.
According to Rashed Khan Menon, an anti-fundamentalist politician,
this acknowledgment by the government is a sign of victory of extremists who always want transform the country as Islamic nation
The government acknowledgment of the ‘Qaumi’ madrassas will qualify the graduates from these schools for getting government jobs. ‘Alia madrassas’ is different from the ‘Qaumi madrassas’, and is supervised and monitored by the government.
