Pakistani President General Parvez Musharraf is getting strong reaction on his decision to suspend the Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry from his post.

Today, the suspended Chief Justice was due to appear before a judicial tribunal and the lawyers started protesting against the suspension of the chief Justice. Pakistani police used tear gas near the Supreme Court in Islamabad to disperse protesters.

The situation is being worse in Pakistan as police force today moved in to the offices of the private Geo TV station and smashed furniture, windows and equipment in the office of the news channel. Earlier, the government had warned the Geo TV for not covering the protests happening in the country.

When the chief justice was making entry into the Supreme Court, supporters surrounded him and chanted slogans like justice lead, we will follow. The report says that protestors were also chanting slogans against President Pervez Musharraf who suspended the top judge last week.

BBC has reported that the all grievances against the Parvez Musharraf are being rallied out on the matter of suspension of Justice Chaudhry. Police have arrested hundreds of opposition politicians and supporters who were supporting the protest in favor of lawyers’ demand.

Despite of massive police presence in Islamabad, the lawyers and political leaders gathered outside the Supreme Court today. Security forces blocked traffic and rolled barbed wire across roads that resulted in clashes on the street.

The freedom of press has been also attacked as the media has been asked not to cover the protest. Pakistan’s broadcasting authority, Pemra, has banned the Geo TV station from showing a current affairs program. Both Geo and another network, Aaj, have had their broadcasts suspended in recent days due to their coverage of the protests. And Today the police force smashed the office of GEO TV office in a strange move.
