A glimpse of restoration of democracy in Pakistan comes on the eve of Pakistan’s Supreme Court clearing way for former PM Nawaz Sharif to return home. Is it the beginning of end of military dictatorship? Lets see!
Nawaz Sharif has been in exile ever since the then Pakistan army General Pervez Musharraf threw him away in a bloodless coup. But, now time seems to be turning around. It is time for Sharif to be back in his country from where he was ousted in 1999 to be in exile. The apex court of Pakistan has made it clear that Nawaz Sharif has every right to get back to his country to take to active politics or whatever as citizen of Pakistan.

Mr. Sharif who was detained in his house chose freedom in exile 10 years ago, resulting in take over of the government by General Musharraf, who has done his very bit to ensure democracy stays away from Pakistan. From deposing the Chief Justice of the country to censoring media, from declaring the war on terror with the U.S. to passively supporting terror, Musharraf’s regime has only seen growth of violence and bloodshed in the country. But, time has changed now. It is time for democracy to step in, with Mr. Sharif and Benazir Bhutto raring to come back to Pakistan and politics. However, it’s not going to be that easy, Mr. Sharif may still see few roadblocks on his way.
The ever-changing political scenario in Pakistan and absence of constitution and rule of law hinders the progress of already crippled democracy. The condition is prone to sudden change and forecasting a definite thing is not an easy task. However, seeing the present momentum the Sharif supporters may expect his return as much as the military regime makes every attempt to thwart it.
What is in store for Pakistan, time will tell!
