The Brunei Times has written an article on the intellectual downfall of Pakistan. It found very few good books in Lahore’s bookshops that was once considered as the intellectual capital of India before partition.
Most of the books available in the shops were published in India, a few in the West. However, very few books were from local Pakistani publications.
There was very few books available based on Pakistani society, pragmatic realities. The books based on history of the Muslim League, and politics in Pakistan were available in hundreds.
Most of the institutions are named after Jinnah and Iqbal. A Pakistani Youth said that it seems, our rulers think Pakistan have no one else to name the institutions after.

Islam and Kashmir are the two issues that build the conception of Pakistan’s national identity. Even many of the few English books on Islam were from Indian publications.
Even most of the books on Kashmir, written by Indian scholars were found in the shelf of Lahore bookshops.
The books on Islamic rituals and theology, hagiographic accounts of the Prophet and the early Muslims, treatises on the ideological founders of Pakistan and the ‘two-nation’ theory were available in the bookshops. The books on Urdu literature were almost non-existed in the book market in Lahore.
