According to a report, Pakistan has successfully test-fired Hataf-VI Shaheen-II, the surface-to-surface ballistic missile, today.

The newly test-fired ballistic missile Shaheen-II has a range of 2,000 kilometers. It is capable of carrying nuclear as well as conventional warheads with greater accuracy with it.

The report says that Pakistan is currently verifying its various land based strategic missile systems. The recent missile test is being said as a part of the ongoing process of validation and technical development in the system.

The chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Ehsan ul-Haq was present at the test site. After the successful test fire, he congratulated the scientists, engineers and the staff of Pakistan’s strategic organizations.

After the test fire, Gen Haq said;

the Pakistan’s strategy of trustworthy minimum deterrence is completely in place and is a guarantee of peace in the region.

The strategic program has a complete national consensus and it would continue to strengthen the needs of national security.

The Shaheen-II is reportedly, a Pakistani version of the Chinese M-18. The Chinese M-18 was originally shown at the 1987 Beijing air show.

According to the reports, Shaheen series of missiles are evidently imported from China by the PAEC’s National Development Complex. Pakistan had test-fired Shaheen II on 15 April 1999 for the first time.

On the other hand, it is not clear whether Pakistan has actually obtained Shaheen series of missiles from China or not. Yet there is no clear evidence that China has transferred these missiles to Pakistan.

Pakistan test-fired its longest-range ballistic missile during the time when the Pakistani foreign minister Kasuri is visiting India to strengthen the bilateral relations between India and Pakistan.
