
The much awaited summit peace talks between the ruling seven-party alliance and the Maoist rebels has been postponed indefinitely.
It was suspended till the further notice after not reaching on any consensus.
The leaders of the Seven-Party Alliance and the Maoists met but the meeting ended only 15 minutes.
The Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala decided to adjourn the meet after he held a joint consultation with Maoist Chairman Prachanda, the former Prime Minister, Sher Bhadur Deuba, and CPN-UML general secretary Madhav Kumar Nepal.
The point of debate was the Monarchy and arms agreement. The SPA and the Nepal Congress (NC) could not agree on monarchy and the arms management.
The rebels have demanded to to abolish the monarchy But the NC said that the fate of monarchy would be decided only by a Constituent Assembly.
The adjournment was so abrupt that both sides did not even issue a press statement. Both sides used to brief the press about the outcome of the talks.
The Maoist commander, Dr. Baburam Bhattarai, said after leaving the venue that the talks had failed because of the royalists’ pressure, which continually meddled with Prime Minister Girija Prasad Koirala.
