Nepal is finally on its way to peace. In a historic development in Nepal, Maoists who fought a 10-year war enter parliament on Monday ahead of elections later this year. Nepal is about to have a new constitution, Interim Constitution.
So, now the people’s war coming to ends, which were exploited under the oppression of feudal lords for many years. It was due to people’s war that helped to crush the feudal structure in the rural areas. A political situation that has been developed through this process, in the overall sense is going to create a great leap forward in the socio-economic condition because it is going to lead the country to a democratic republican structure.
The current parliament will sit from 0800 (0215 GMT) and is due to endorse a new temporary constitution which, among other things, grants the prime minister the executive powers of a head of state.
The Maoists’ share of nominated MPs includes a large number of women and members of marginalised social groups along with civil society activists. Surprisingly, it also includes a retired major general of the Nepalese army who has voiced republican sentiments.
