This was the ‘most obvious’ and evident patronage for Pervez Musharraf, the United States administration has said that Musharraf is the best man to decide what to do in the matter of holding two posts at the same time in Pakistan. The US administration has reportedly left the matter of dual office of the President and the army chief to President Mushrraf himself. Earlier, Assistant Secretary of State Richard Boucher had said in a statement that the United States has no problem if Musharraf wins the general election without losing the uniform. Now, US Deputy Secretary John Negroponte has said that the most important thing is to hold free and fair general elections in Pakistan. This is upto Musharraf to decide what would be better for him. Today, Boucher and Negroponte had discussions Musharraf in Rawalpindi regarding his preparations for the Presidential polls and the general elections that is scheduled to be happened later this year. After the meeting the US officials announced $750 million additional funding for Pakistan. The funds will be used for the development of the volatile tribal areas where al-Qaeda and Taliban militants were hiding.
