Pakistani government headed by Mr. Pervez Musharraf is going through serious turmoil. Errant judicial group along with opposition parties are shouting heavily against the President alleging destruction of democracy in the country. Thousands of anti-Musharraf demonstrators have been detained in Lahore prior to a rally, which has been scheduled on Saturday.
In early March ‘2007, Mr. Musharraf issued suspension notice against Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. Allegation against the chief justice was misuse of the power. Government notice mentioned that Mr. Chaudhry managed a top job for his son and unauthorized protocol for himself by such misuse.
But, fellow colleagues of suspended chief justice are saying different. They say, it’s Musharraf who is misusing power. They argue that Mr. Chaudhry is independent minded and was fit for his position. They explain that Mr. Chaudhry could have been a serious problem for Musharraf wishes to hold army position further.
Pervez Musharraf captured presidential position in 1999 after a bloodless military coup, which ousted Nawaj Sharif from prime minister post. From that time Musharraf is holding both the position of President and army chief. In 2002, Supreme Court allowed him to hold the positions till 2005 but he is continuing still now.
So it’s reported that this time he would witness serious opposition from lawmakers if he decides to extend his army position. And very soon Musharraf has to face them for the approval of the extension.
Anti-Musharraf judicial group allege that the President is trying to smoothen the approval process by suspending Mr. Chaudhry on false ground.
But one thing is sure if such opposition works well then Musharraf might witness serious trouble before his political ambition.
