Chhaya Devi Parajuli

Chhaya Devi Parajuli, 88-year-old woman who has the distinction to be called as the mother of Nepal’s anti-monarchy pro democracy movement, has died on last weekend after being hit by a motorcycle.

She was the member of the Nepali Congress and she had come to Kathmandu from her native village when the king first sacked the elected prime minister. Since that time, she participated in almost every pro-democracy demonstration in Kathmandu. Later she had become the face of anti-monarch and pro-democracy movements in Nepal.

She was hit several times by tear gas shells, water cannons and arrested 35 times. During an interview she had told that, I am not afraid, I do not care about myself, I care about my country. I care about my people.
