Five US troops were killed in various attacks against them by Iraqi insurgents amongst whom one died fighting in the latest operation in the Syrian border, Uncle Sam’s military confirmed today. This makes the death toll of George Bush’s crusaders in Iraq to only 2061 which is a far cry from US deaths in Vietnam where over 54,000 died.
Meanwhile American puppet Iraqi Prime Minister Ibrahim al-Jaafari, appearing with visiting U.S. Secretary of State Condy Rice, demanded that Syria do more to keep foreign fighters from crossing into western Iraq. The demand is not likely to be heeded by the Syrians. Why? Because they say that they are doing all they can to prevent them from crossing over. They simply don’t like it, isn’t it President Hafez Assad?
Anyway, Baghdad continues to burn as furiously as ever. Three Iraqi police officers were killed Friday when their vehicle was ambushed near Baqubah, 35 miles northeast of the city while gunmen fired on the compound of the Embassy of Oman, killing two people - the second fatal shooting involving employees of Arab embassies this week.
Meanwhile, reports say that Izzat Ibrahim al-Douri, the highest-ranking figure from former President Saddam Hussein’s regime still at large, died Friday. The report, which gave no cause of death, could not be independently confirmed.
U.S. officials say al-Douri played a key role in organizing resistance that erupted in 2003 against the U.S.-led coalition.
That’s it for now folks, we shall keep you updated on the continuing tragedy of Iraq.
