Hafeez Muhammed Saeed, founder of the Lashkar-e-Toyaba (LET), was re-arrested for a two-month period and sent to Lahore jail on August 28. He was released after a court order and arrested soon after releasing.
According to Saeed’s lawyer Nazir Ahmed Ghazi, after the Lahore High Court’s order Saeed was released for an hour and arrested again from his residence. And he was detained for a two months period once again.
Saeed leads the Islamic charity Jamaat-ud-Dawa also. Jamaat-ud-Dawa has been listed by the United States as a terrorist organisation but is not banned in Pakistan. The US says Jammat-ud-Dawa operates as a fundraising operation for Lashkar-e-Toiba.
He was arrested on August 10 under the maintenance of public order on the ground that he was likely to disturb peace during his planned rally coinciding with Pakistan’s independence day on August 14.
