Demonic flood leaves South Asian nations devastated

Natural calamities have almost become a part of the South Asian culture. This year nearly 14 million people are walking on the tightrope as the devastating floods challenge their lives. Unlike in many other dry regions of India, places such as Assam, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh, the situation is grim. The monsoon rain which otherwise is the saviour of the agricultural community have destroyed every single cultivation. Not only have the people lost their crops but also their homes. According to the disaster management task force in Bihar, in almost 30 years now, this is the worst flood that has affected the state and has uprooted almost half of the state’s population. From facing traffic problem, to roadblock, the entire establishment is in a chaotic stage as people are struggling to survive with shortage of the basic amenities such as electricity, water and even food. With the water clogging in almost every nook and corner of the state, the relief authorities are feeling helpless as many places are beyond accessibility. Nevertheless, soldiers and flood management forces are being deployed in the worst hit areas so as to evacuate the people to a higher ground and safe rooftops. In Assam, the situation is even gloomier. With the incessant rains, the danger level in all the tributaries including the river Brahmaputra has gone high. People are sitting helplessly waiting for the authorities to provide them relief material. Almost the entire state has turned into a river island with bridges, roads, fields and houses being washed away by the unstoppable current of the floodwater. Why isn’t the Indian government doing anything? Every other day, we see in the streets of Delhi, some or the other construction taking place. In almost every half a kilometer, every month one or the other mall is coming up. Why spend money on such frivolous things, when there is so much to do in the North Eastern region of India specifically. Read More Courtesy Image
