Communal clashes have been reportedly broke out in Nepalgunj district, Nepal. In the violence, a 15-year old boy killed and more than 12 people became injured in police fire on the people taking law and order in their hands.

The official sources said that Kamal Giri was killed and others became injured in the police firing. A group of protestors had earlier ignored the curfew and police warnings.

They were protesting in front of the district administration office. Later police opened fire on them. This is the first incident of killing a human life in police action since the seven party coalitions has formed the government.

The administration had put Nepalgunj under curfew after the the hill and terai community clashes that had gone on a damaging fling.

Later, on Monday, the Nepal Sadhbhavana Party (NSP-A) had called a daylong Terai bandh against the finalised interim constitution. The matter of finalizing the interim constitution in the country has possibly provoked the anger of the people here in the region.

However, the NSP leadership had put their consent on the interim constitution agreement with a dissenting note.

The home ministry official said that in the riots, more than 25 vehicles and as many as houses have been damaged. No casualty figures available with the government.

On the other hand, Prime Minister G P Koirala summoned the chief of army staff, Gen Rukmangad Katwal. The army has been put on high alert but the government has not decided to deploy the army to the riot affected areas. Police actions are not effective to restrict the violent activities in the region.

According to a deputy inspector general of police,

It’s very difficult for the police to act effectively especially because the Koirala government has not only politicized the police force, but has also demoralized the institution by suspending many effective officials.
