Canada’s international impact might not be as overt as that of the United States or Britain but it is one of the major players in international politics. It has several thousands troops deployed in Afghanistan alone and more are in sensitive and volatile regions across the world. Just like its military initiative, its diplomatic efforts too are excellent.
The latest diplomatic mission appears to be headed towards securing peace and harmony in troubled Myanmar. Since the middle of August, the South Asian nation has been embroiled in a bitter democracy dispute. The dictatorial military junta there has been reported to be employing arms against the peaceful monks who have led the march for democracy for the past two and a half months.
Canada wants democracy to be instilled in the nation and for that it requires China’s support. The Communist Asian State is quite friendly with the military junta in Myanmar and has massive trade ties with them. China have barely protested against the use of arms by the junta on the peaceful demonstrators and the Parliamentary Friends of Burma (PFOB), a group of Canadian MPs and Senators, want their own government to do something to alter the situation.
Canada has severely condemned the military junta and has even conferred honorary citizenship status on Burma’s pro-democracy leader Aung San Suu Kyi, who has been a political prisoner for the best part of the last 18 years. PFOB also wants the Canadian government to take some action against the policy of political prisoners in Myanmar.
The military junta has never been popular among the international community, except with China, and now more and more voices of discontent and resentment are rising. The United Nations need to look at the matter closely and do more than just send envoys to Myanmar. Myanmar is in a deep crisis and international help is urgent.

The Canadian government is in a catastrophic state unsure of what to do to effectively handle the problems it is facing with the economic climate. The situation gets even worst. The members of Parliament were settled on not cooperating with the Conservative Prime Minister and may have been heading for a vote of No Confidence, an effective removal of the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister has asked the Governor General, head of Parliament, to suspend Parliament in order to devise a new effective plan without fear of partisan quarrels. This is called a ”prorogation” which does not often occur. So if you think America is the only country in high need of emergency cash and payday loans, think again. We are not alone in this economic disaster.
