A Major power failure had hit three-fourth part of Pakistan including Islamabad yesterday. It was the worst power failure in the country’s history due to technical fault at the Tarbela Dam.

The Tarbela Dam is located on the Indus River in 50 kilometers in northwest of Islamabad. It is one of the largest earth filled dams in the world. It produces much of Pakistan’s hydroelectricity.

The power crisis that lasted for several hours had been carried out on a 500 kv transmission line in the northern part of the country.

At the same time, a rumor of a coup against President Musharraf had spread in Pakistan. The Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz has given order of inquiry of the power failure as well as the rumor of coup against Musharraf.

Musharraf has been in New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
