Upheavals one after the other in Bangladesh show that the Military backed Govt. is bent upon eradicating the corruption and to do this, it has already exiled Bangladesh nationalist party leader, Khaleda Zia and now Sheikh Hasina is facing allegations of murder and riots.
In order to end the corruption, the military backed Govt. of Bangladesh, which is in power since January this year, has arrested the Awami League Leader Sheikh Hasina Wazid, who was under house arrest since she arrived back in the country and is facing the corruption charges. However, the authorities have not disclosed the cause of the arrest.
The military backed Govt. took the rein in its hands in January this year, delayed the elections and started a campaign to rid the country of from years of misrule, corruption and anarchy that resulted due to political rivalry between the two political giants - Awami League (AL) and Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
Military backed Govt. has taken many U-turns, as at first, it blocked the arrival of sheikh Hasina, later allowed her to come back, and it has even lifted the restriction on the two former prime ministers, which has tainted the repute of care taker government. Amid such developments, whether the AL and BNP, who are presently banned, will be allowed to take part in the politics - remains unveiled.
The tangible results of govt.’s efforts to uproot corruption are still awaited; however, the present developments don’t go in the right direction and Bangladeshi crises don’t seem to sooth till both adverse ladies govern the Bangladeshi political arena.
Is it a Govt.’s drive to end corruption by shoving off the senior leaders of both political parties? Or has military become overambitious and is looming covertly to take the rein of Bangladesh. These apprehensions are strengthened because all the influential leaders are vilified from the political arena. If this happens, the situation will not be batter than Pakistan and terrorism may found another safe heaven in Bangladesh. Therefore, the biggest challenge before the Govt. is how to steer the country out of the crises while restoring a firm electoral system whereby barring the tainted politicians to hold the high offices of the country.
