Pakistan, the biggest ally of U.S for war on terror, has been pin pointed by the Afghan president Hamid Karzai for supporting terrorism and providing shelter to Taliban rebels to carry out its nefarious operation in Afghanistan.
Hamid Karzai crossed fingers with the Pakistani president, Pervez Musharraf for his intransigence and ambiguity of words and actions.
Pakistan’s Intransigence
Pakistan denies the charges against it and reiterates its commitment for war against terrorism, and reminds the support it has rendered to U.S forces to annihilate Taliban in Afghanistan.
Pakistan carried out operations in Waziristan wherein thousands of its solders died but still Pakistan stands accused of allowing the support to continue. Afghan foreign minister Rangin Dadfar Spanta accuses Pakistan of providing terrorists training, funding, and ideological support.
The fact is true, Pervez Musharraf is not able to rein the militants and ISI in the country. Assurance from the president to the world that Pakistan will not allow the use of its territory for spreading terrorist activities across both the borders proved gruesome.
Pak Need to rein ISI and terrorist Outfits
Last week Pakistan entered in an agreement with the Taliban insurgents, which essentially will bestow some power to the Taliban and al-Qaeda in North Waziristan tribal region.
The Taliban and al-Qaeda can now jointly consolidate power and can attack coalition forces in Afghanistan. The agreement can sabotage the efforts to stabilize the war torn country.
Pak should curb ISI to render its support to Taliban insurgents as the insurgents are crossing through Waziristan tribal region. No doubt, Pakistan has taken action against the insurgents but still lot remains to block it fully on Pakistani side. Pak authorities should stop insurgency and eschew providing training to militants in the north and south of Waziristan.
Insurgency and terrorism are big problem and need mutual understanding and effective cooperation from both countries.
