Afghanistan, the first country to bear the wrath of ‘War on Terror’, still after six years of war, it’s miles away from a stable country or fully functioning democracy either.
The suicide bombings and the terror attacks are on and innocent people fear for life inside their houses even, but country is making progress. Isn’t it?
Meanwhile, President Hamid Karzai is in US and is being credited for making Afghanistan safer. But, the country is still struggling with the Taliban rebels who are gaining momentum day by day!
Terrorists have caused havoc on innocent people and are also giving tough fight to coalition forces. Still, country is making progress and US needs to applaud Karzai for that. Good chap you are on right path. This much saying and this is how Bush puts the failure and fatigue off the stage.
While Karzai is in New York to address the UN General Assembly, the violence at home goes on. US-led coalition forces have killed more than 160 that what it called as the Taliban fighters and villagers accuse the occupying forces to kill several civilians in Air raids and gun fire.
There is violence, there are suicide attacks, there are air raids, civilians are dying, and there are protests against occupying forces — still Afghanistan is stable! So, is it this you call ’success’?
On the other hand, drug trade in Afghanistan is soaring day by day. While at the same time, the money gained through illegal drugs trafficking is providing the lively oxygen to Terrorists. The flux of the illegal money - from opium poppy or otherwise - is more difficult to track and block than hunting the terrorists. Still, country is making progress. Great! Isn’t it?
Additionally, not only the occupying forces’ efforts to nullify the terror threats and providing basic security for the Afghans have failed miserable, but US hunt for Osama Bin Laden even seems nowhere off the mark, let aside the resurgence of Taliban to the main stream. Then, is it anything else than much cry little wool? Well, how long will this eye wash continue?
