In yet another move to remain as self-proclaimed constitutional head of Pakistan, Musharraf suspended stringent media restrictions that are clearly designed to muzzle the free press.
There is something unusual about Pakistan; in spite of the protests of opposing politicians, military rule has often been seen by many ordinary Pakistanis as being preferable to corrupt and incompetent civilian governments.
I fail to understand, why people in Pakistan fail to grasp that their President poses a threat to their privileges with his crookedness and stubbornness. I must insist - wake up Pakistanis...enough is enough! The dictator is trying to shut your mouths...what else are you waiting for?
After trampling democracy and then Judiciary under the boots, President Musharraf has yet again showed the extent to which he can go to get another term as a president visibly proving the overreaching ambition of being the tyrannical head.
It is also frustrating to see why ‘US- the liberator’ while ’staying on the course’ of bringing democracy to the whole world is always digging its heels and watching its close ally on ‘war against terror’ misuse its powers.
Musharraf has taken Pakistan to such a point from where it seems that it needs just a little adjustment in the dooms day clock. Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal with its crushing economic problems is just waiting for a fuse to go off. No doubt, it will go off but the worse will follow with further weakening of the state that could leave Pakistan’s nuclear arsenal vulnerable to terrorists.
Here, I must again call upon the people of Pakistan to show Musharraf the writing on the wall that clearly says, ‘Go’ or if not, let him meet his predecessor’s fate. Come forward and decide whether you need an army dictator with the prime minister becoming a mere puppet in the hands of its sycophant Generals.
