The violence triggered by the LTTE in Sri Lanka shows no sign to cease. Three persons were killed when a roadside bomb exploded near a civilian truck that was passing it.
The explosion occurred in Thirukkovil village in eastern Ampara district.

Military spokesman Brig. Prasad Samarasinghe blamed the blast on separatist Tamil Tiger rebels who have often exploded bombs targeting military vehicles.

Whereas in a separate incident, naval troops shot dead three suspected Tamil Tiger rebels in the northeastern district of Trincomalee. The suspected Tamil Tiger rebel was shot dead by police commandos in the eastern district of Ampara, after he lobbed a grenade at security forces.

Sri Lanka has not seen peace for over 35-years now. A spurge in violence has been seen across the island in recent days that has claimed more than 5,000 lives in the last 18 months.

Sri Lankan troops and the LTTE have been locked in combat following the breakdown of a 2002 Norwegian-arranged ceasefire, with more than 60,000 people killed till date.
